Unraveling the Knots for Healthy Backbending

Backbends are invaluable to the spine. When approached with a sense of relaxation, openness and a greater feeling of spaciousness we can start to increase mobility and flexibility of the spinal column joints. Many students experience tightness - especially through the upper back - and pain in the lower back during backbends. With back pain being so relevant how this category of poses is approached is critical to a “healthy” yoga practice.


In the workshop we will:

  • Learn how to release over-efforting and forcing movement through willpower

  • Learn how to relax the movement muscles prior to any backbend

  • Learn the connection of how mental stress affects our movement patterns & tips on how you can allow your body to open and feel more spacious both in your practice & daily life.
