Frequently Asked Questions

There are a lot of yoga poses I can’t do.  Can I still do a teacher training program and teach Yoga?

Absolutely! There is no requirement to be able to perform each pose.  However you still will learn instruction in how to teach poses you cannot physically do, and it’s inevitable that you will get better at your physical practice as well as the other practices through the course of your training.

What physical style of Yoga does the training focus on?

Trainees will learn how to teach asana based on Tantric Hatha Yoga foundations.  Trainees will graduate with a unique blend of Yoga modified to suit their students’ needs.

I want to do the training, but I will be out of town one weekend or think I might miss a day. Can I still do it?

Yes! Things happen. If you do have to miss, you are expected to schedule time with Kim personally to make up for the missed weekend, which is $75/day that you missed of the training in addition to the cost of the training itself. This is not meant to be scary, just a heads up for planning purposes :) We can discuss virtual attendance individually if needed for extenuating circumstances, and if weather does not permit us from joining at the studio, the training will still go on, but through Zoom.

Outside of the training hours, what is the time commitment required?

Expect to spend between 2-4 hours between weekends on written assignments, reading assignments and other homework. The homework is designed to support the material covered in class and help you integrate what is presented into your own practice and teaching. You will also be asked to commit to a daily yoga practice throughout the duration of the course, at minimum. You are provided 15 classes at Downtown Yoga Fargo that are included in the price of the course as well. We will learn how to establish a daily practice, a sadhana, in the first weekend of the course.

I am not sure I want to actually be a Yoga teacher, but I’m still interested.  Is this still something I can pursue?

Absolutely! The 200 hour training course was originally designed for deepening one's own yoga practice; it was not a certification course at all. Our specific school and course has been carefully created to first provide you the opportunity to dive into the practice on a personal level, and then be able to share the pieces that resonate with you if you so chose.

What is Yoga Alliance?

Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. More and more yoga studios across the country are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either as the 200 or 500 hour level.  Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.

Will I be qualified to teach Yoga after this training?

Yes! With the successful completion of all requirements of the program, including contact hours, homework, and exam, you will receive your diploma and certification at the 200-hour level. You will be qualified to teach thereafter if it is a part of your path.
